They also nailed how parents never listened to kids back then when they would actually come to them with problems and also how in movies like The Goonies the parents were on another planet or something when the kids would get into crazy trouble by themselves. I grew up in the 1980s and so many great details about suburban life then are recreated here: a time when kids would go off on adventures and parents barely knew what they were up to. I am a big true crime fan & this tells the story of what has often sadly at times been a reality! Was this review helpful to you? Not scary, excessive penis and masturbation jokes and not very 80 ish. On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. But I really enjoyed this film. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real. This is like a dark version of The Goonies where instead of pirate gold the quest is to prove a theory. I’m tired of people comparing it to “ stranger things”. Never take your mistress on an annual guys' getaway, especially one devoted to hunting - a violent lesson for three wealthy married men. It's so full of suspense and twists. Sixteen years later when the daughters reunite at the house, things get really strange.

I can't say enough good about Summer of 84 but don't want to say anything that would spoil it.
