The title character is Edmond O'Brien, a lonely travelling salesman who ends up married to two women, Eve (Joan Fontaine)--and Phyllis (Ida Lupino).
Harry ends up in court, where the two women finally meet. Via flashbacks, Harry tells the adoption agent how he ended up in two marriages. Once there, he found that Phyllis was pregnant.
