As it enters the third act, it goes full action movie with explosions, fight scenes, and massive stakes. Neeson delivers a fairly good performance and is backed by a solid supporting cast that includes Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, and Sam Neill.

Unfortunately this was about as much as I enjoyed about the film.
The movie kept you guessing but then it got kind of obvious at the end.

Liam Neeson plays a salesman asked to find a fellow passenger in a film lacking a coherent narrative.
We don't see movies like The Commuter for logical plots or quality acting, we see them because Neeson is shorthand for popcorn and 90-minute roller coaster rides. "The Commuter" (2018 release; 103 min.)

This Hollywood farce challenged me at every turn and left me saying NO WAY again and again...I like movies where you know the bad guys and the good guys...like Shane. Aging financially strapped 60 year old Liam lives paycheck to paycheck, house mortgaged to the hilt with his son's college tuition due and he gets fired. When Michael goes to check there, he can't believe it but yes, there's the money. The cliché plot and the predictability of its outcome hurtling at high speed throughout the storyline make The Commuter a surprisingly fun Friday night pleaser. Was this review helpful?
I admit that Neeson's films are a bit formulaic, but it can still be a fun time to while away some time. Instead, they get Our Hero involved and things go awry. And, the directing style adds a lot of tension and intrigue to the film as MacCauley narrows down the suspects. The Commuter is much less concerned with staging brawls than it is with trying to spin a taut, ticking time bomb thriller, and for the most part it's quite successful. Usual mix of suspects presented for the viewer to guess who is the culprit as well as the intended victim, and true to form they turn out to be the least (or nearly so) expected. While this was to be expected from Jaume Collet-Serra, it undermines what had been a more contained thriller up to that point.
